Clos d'Yvinge Wine

Red Wine

Clos d'Vigne red winesThe red wines are appellation Bergerac Rouge. This denomination identifies wines of a particular quality within the overall Bergerac apppellation. The stricter harvesting conditions produce wines which are richer, more concentrated and age well.

Two varieties are made at Clos d’Yvigne: Le Rouge et Le Noir, a merlot/cabernet sauvignon and Le Prince, a merlot/cabernet franc.

The wines are vinified by traditional methods with a long maceration period after the first fermentation to extract maximum fruit flavour, colour and tannins. They are then aged in oak barrels for up to two years.

Le Rouge at Le Noir

The mix of the soft and fragrant merlot with the region’s classic cabernet sauvignon and two years in oak produces the beautifully balanced Le Rouge et Le Noir – deeply flavoured, ruby coloured and with fine grained tannins. It is rich on the palate and ages well.

Le Rouge et Le Noir is merlot and cabernet, unfiltered, and the liquid is deep red with purple edges....The fruit is generous with tannins, which allow for a polished finish to coagulate in the throat.

Le Prince

The 90% merlot in Le Prince’s merlot/cabernet franc produces the fruity aromas of cherries and blackcurrants to which the cabernet franc adds a hint of spice. It is a wine that is powerful on the nose and supple in the mouth.

Le Prince is mostly merlot and is a joy to drink, offering globules of flavour that shift reluctantly throatwards...Rugged yet smooth, chewy yet fresh, and the tannins are balanced.
Malcom Gluck, The Guardian

It's a fantastic find - dark and austere in the glass, a first whiff reveals a velvet suppleness and cherry aromas. This holds its own against many clarets.
